Bellarmine on Psalm LXXXVI: Title & theme

Title and subject matter

Titulum et argumentum

For the sons of Core, a psalm of a canticle.

Filiis Core. Psalmus cantici.

In this Psalm is sung the praise of the city of Jerusalem, by which the Christian Church is most certainly to be understood, even if it applies to the earthly city of Jerusalem, as it says in the beginning that its foundations are in mountains; it does not apply to the cities of others such as the Babylonians, the Egyptians or the Tyrians; but everything can be readily understood as applying to the Church, whether the Church militant or the Church triumphant.

Totus tuus ego sum
Et omnia mea tua sunt;
Tecum semper tutus sum:
Ad Jesum per Mariam.
