A canticle of the steps
Canticum graduum
In the Gradual Psalms, as we showed at the beginning, the Prophet alternately now laments the tribulations of exile and now praises the blessings of the heavenly homeland, and both the former and the latter serve as an exhortation to the exiles to hasten on their journey upwards. As he said many things in the previous Psalm about the blessings of Jerusalem : now he reverts to the evils of Babylon, in which we are strangers and exiles.
Totus tuus ego sum
Et omnia mea tua sunt;
Tecum semper tutus sum:
Ad Jesum per Mariam.
